About Generating Set

In [mathematics], the expressions generator, generate, generated by and generating set can have several closely related technical meanings:
  • [generating set of a group], a set of group elements which are not contained in any subgroup of the group other than the entire group itself. See also [group presentation].
  • [Subring#Subring generated by a set]: A subset S of a [ring (mathematics)] A generates A if the only [subring] of A containing S is A itself.
  • [Ideal (ring theory)#Ideal generated by a set] in a [ring (mathematics)].
  • [generating set of an algebra]: If A is a ring and B is an A-[algebra], then S generates B if the only [subalgebra] of B containing S is B itself.
  • [generating set of a topological algebra]: S is a generating set of a [topological algebra] A if the smallest closed [subalgebra] of A containing S is A itself??
  • Elements of the [Lie algebra] to a [Lie group] are sometimes referred to as generators of the group, especially by physicists. The Lie algebra can be thought of as generating the group at least locally by exponentiation, but the Lie algebra does not form a generating set in the strict sense.
  • The generator of any [continuous symmetry] implied by [Noether's theorem]; the generators of a Lie group being a special case. In this case, a generator is sometimes called a [charge (physics)] or [Noether charge], in analogy to the [electric charge] being the generator of the [U(1)] symmetry group of [electromagnetism]. Thus, for example, the [color charge]s of [quark]s are the generators of the [SU(3)] color symmetry in [quantum chromodynamics]. More precisely, though, the term "charge" should apply only the to [root system] of a Lie group.
  • In [stochastic processes], the [Infinitesimal generator (stochastic processes)] of an [Itō diffusion] or more general [Itō process].
  • In [topology], a collection of sets which generate the topology is called a [subbase].
  • In [category theory] there is also a notion of [generator (category theory)].
Usually the intended meaning will be clear from context.Information Reference: Wikipedia.org

Questions and Answers

What question could generate the most random set of answers?

A) Heads or tails?

Premium rate numbers for generating an income?? Are they worth setting up?

Q) Apart from advertising these services depending on what you wish to advertise...say text lines to phones 121....there does not appear to be much else one does???Any advice??

A) i once owned one of these only because i was given it free of charge by the chat line service i worked for but even advertising it in the local paper i didnt break even with just the advertising costs, so no i wouldnt recomend it.

Income Generating Phone Numbers?

Q) Does anybody know how I can get an income generating phone number other than using BT? I need one that generates a small income but it low cost to my customers, such as a local rate number or a 10p per minute, cheaper than calling a mobile and a more attractive number than a mobile. Preferably one that can be set up to go straight to a mobile number rather than a landline? Or one that I can chop and change from home to mobile as and when required.

A) 0870 is the most common income-generating number, however I would warn you that there is a website dedicated to avoiding these numbers, www.saynoto0870.com. I'm afraid I am personally appalled at the number of companies which use income generating phone numbers, I believe they should be banned.

How can use VB to generate a chart in excel from a set of data inserted while the application is running?

A) ODBC call.

Design an algorithm to generate all possible (distinct) subsets of a given set (finite) of distinct elements.

A) WHY ???????????

Can I set up a company based on charity while at the same time pay the workers who generate the money?

Q) If you say no to the idea of me having to pay the employees who will work so hard to generate these finances to carry out this very important task in our society today, that for many years has remained a teething problem for every government...nay the World. Second, what about all thes mushroom religious organizations & their broadcast channels that are styled as charities & companies limited by guarantees and yet live extravagant lifestyle, travel all over World in either private or chattered jets and majority of whom look more chubby and pot bellied than most millionaires in the city; tell me where do they get all that money from?

A) Most charities now employ a chief executive and he is paid a vast amount of money, typically £40k per year and he is expected to generate vast amounts of funds with his bright ideas. He may find it necessary to pay others to carry out other tasks such as accounting, typing etc. He must show a profit for the charity and do not forget that a charity must be registered with the charity commissioners and regular checks are made.

Generating 3D Models From Images of Real World Objects?

Q) Does anyone know of any programs or computer algorithms to allow a user to input a set of pictures and produce/output geometric coordinates or 3d models with textures mapped upon them.

A) Depending on your budget: Cyberscaning is the best method - these guys are quite good: http://www.soho-cyberscan.com/ It is a fairly expensive process though. I do not recall where I saw it, but there was talk or a retail model at some stage. Otherwise look at a CG library like Turbosquid - what you want may already be out there.

How do you set up a server network card to accept a static IP address?

Q) I'm working with Windows Small Business Server 2003 on a Dell Poweredge 1900. I've manually entered the IP address and preferred and alternate DNS servers. BT suggested I use 255.255.255.0 as the Subnet Mask, and the static IP address they've issued as the Default gateway, but I cannot get a connection. If I switch back to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' I get a connection but the card is generating an IP address of 10.0.0.7. I need to have the card retain the static IP address so I can access the server remotely. The server has two NICs; one for the external broadband connection (which is the one I am having problems with) and a second which is hooked to our network switch. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give on this. Many thanks.

A) it seesm that your ADSL Connection through the router or the ADSL modem is generating IP's for your network, the DHCP is enabled on one of them, it's a good situation since you want other clients to access internet through your server , so the NIC hoocked to your switch should have a static IP address , manely 192.168.0.1 , and you start sharing this connection , in this way you will get a dynamic address and a static one , to be able to access your server remotely you need to configure remote access on your 2003 server by adding a licence

Set up a business using a premium rate telephone number?

Q) Hi, Before I start, I should say that in no way do I endorse the rip of culture of premium rate telephone numbers you see on TV quiz shows etc. However, I have a business idea offering advice and would like to market myself by using a premium rate telephone number that would generate an income. My question is: is it possible to do this and secondly, where do I find the info I need? Many thanks Trudy PS the subject matter would be astrology

A) Go to "Say no to 0870" - it's full of adverts for people daft enough to say YES !

How do you set up a website to accept payment via Worldpay?

Q) I've thrown together the form as it explains on their website to send the user to Worldpay and to let them know how much to charge - that way easy... My problem is that I am confused how to stop the payment system being subject to abuse given that it currently works like this: 1. CartId generated for user 2. User submits form to Worldpay and is diverted to their website 3. User pays using Worldpay 4. Worldpay diverts back to a success page on my website with the CartId saying they have paid Using this approach a user could easily create an order, transfer to Worldpay, then without paying just make a call to my success page sending it the same data Worldpay would have used to show the transaction as being completed. This would make my website think they had paid, when in reality they had not. What am I doing wrong?... Or do I have no choice other than to review the Worldpay logs for every order?! :-( :-s

A) Wow sounds to complicated. I would suggest Linkpoint.com I was up and running in two days. Linkpoint is the merchant credit card processor and I use cartmanager.com as my shopping cart. Cartmanager only charges me $10.00 a month.Very simple to use yet is very robust with options. I would not suggest PayPal, I just did not have a good experience with them however they are an easy option if you need something quick until you finalize your merchant and shopping Cart. Good Luck

How difficult and expensive is it to set up a lead generating website that would list at top of say Google?

Q) This may be more of a marketing question, Is it practical and affordable for indiviual sales prospecting?

A) How Difficult? Very How expensive? none to infinite

Describe an algorithm for generating all the permutations of the set of the n smallest positive integers.?

A) I have it! first write 1 2 3 ... (n-1) (n-1) n Then, starting from position i=n (the last position) and going backward, search a position i where number X in position i-1 is less than the number in position i At this point you take the smallest number between those in position i...n that is greater than X. It exists because there is at least that one in position i. You put that number in position i-1 and rearrange all numbers on the right of i-1 ascending. You go on until you don't find any number X in position i-1 where X is less than the number in position i. For example: 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 5 4 1 2 4 3 5 1 2 4 5 3 1 2 5 3 4 1 2 5 4 3 1 3 2 4 5 1 3 2 5 4 1 3 4 2 5 1 3 4 5 2 1 3 5 4 2 1 4 2 3 5 1 4 2 5 3 1 4 3 2 5 1 4 3 5 2 1 4 5 2 3 1 4 5 3 2 1 5 2 3 4 .... 5 4 1 2 3 5 4 1 3 2 5 4 2 1 3 5 4 2 3 1 5 4 3 1 2 5 4 3 2 1 it works!! this is one my invention, i hope u like it all

Can you set up a script in Adobe InDesign that sends a file to print, as well as generating a pdf?

Q) I work in publishing and often need to send proofs out via hard copy as well as email. Is it possible to set up a script or action (like you can in Photoshop) that will do all of these things for you?

A) http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/index.html

How can you generate random nos. from a given set of nos. ?

Q) I have to generate a set of random nos. to be generated in C++. For eg. generating nos. from the set {35,67,54,67}. Please write a program to do so and be very simple and precise. Add comments to explain the complicated (although avoid it) statements used. Please confine ur program to the use of #include <iostream.h> and # include <conio.h> header file along with void main (). Please write the complete program along with the explanation.

A) Nobody (hopefully) is going to write this complete program for you -- that would defeat the purpose of your taking the class, right? But I'll give you a strong hint. In this case you have 5 numbers to choose from in your set. So what you really want is a random number on the interval (0,4) to use as an index into the array of allowed values. So use rand(), scale it between 0 and 4, convert it to an integer, then index your source array.

A random number generator is set up to generate integer random numbers between 1 and 10 inclusive following a?

Q) A random number generator is set up to generate integer random numbers between 1 and 10 inclusive following a uniform distribution. What is the probability of the random number generator generating a 7? 1/10 is not an option. It's multiple choice.

A) 1/10 if they are uniformly distributed, it means that each number has equal probability of being picked. there are 10 numbers, so each has a 1/10 chance of being picked.

Generate a set test inputs and expected results for the Currency Conversion program?

A)

Find grammars for ∑ ={a,b} that generates the set of all strings with at last one a?

Q) formal languages and automata last = least

A) I haven't done grammers in years, so I may be forgetting the exact syntax... Here goes. B = aB|Ba|a|ab|ba | = OR

Can you find a context free grammar that generates the set of all Palindromes over the alphabet {1,0}?

Q) A palindrome is a string that reads the same backward as it does forward. This question is on grammar and languages in mathematics/CS

A) x = a / b / axa / bxb / NULL a is a Palindrom and so is b so is NULL if we put a before it and after it so is it same for b before and after a= 0 and b = 1

How do i Generate a equation from a set of x,y points?

Q) How do i Generate a equation from a set of x,y points? if you know how to, what would be the equation for: 40, 1333.3334 60, 1000 80, 666.66667 100, 33.333334 or if you prefer it set out like this: x | 40 | 60 | 80 | 100 | ----------------------------------------------------------------- y | 1333.3334 | 1000 | 666.66667 |33.333334| I am trying to work out an equation for converting beats per minute (from a metronome) to milliseconds per beat (for a VB.NET program)

A) Last number should be 333.333..., not 33.333... . Sketch a graph and look for a familiar shape. In your case, the graph is a straight line. So you look for an equation of the form ... y = m x + b Now m is the slope, and you can calculate that based on any to points. For instance, between the first and the last, m = (333.33.. - 1333.33...) / (100 - 40) ... = -1000 / 60 = -166.66... So we have ... y = -166.66.... x + b, Use an arbitrary point to find the y-intercept, b: ... 1000 = -166.66... * 60 + b, ... 1000 = -1000 + b, ... b = 2000. Conclusion: y = -166.66.... x + 2000.

What would be the generating capacity of an 6.3 MW Engine attached to 3.5MW capacity alternator?

Q) If I have a diesel engine of 6.3 MW capacity and the alternator attached to is of 3.5 MW capacity then what could be maximum power generated from the set?

A) The power output of the diesel has no significance, as the alternator cannot accept an input significantly greater than its output. The maximum electrical power generated will be 3.5MW.
